Holiday Books to Read With Your Child
There are tons of holiday classics.
Sadly, most of them have been made into movies. Kids are more into watching movies than reading the books. But the books play an important role.
Then cadence of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Night Before Christmas” cannot be gotten from the movies. Those books are written in a wonderful cadence that takes a voice to read, and someone to hear. If you simply watch the movies, you are missing out.
And what about the classic movies with the old clay-mation stuff? They are hardly on anymore. And most of them are based on books. Costco sells the movies, as does Wal-Mart. But what about the books?
The Christmas stories are simply wonderful. We spend so little time reading with our children these days. They spend much more time on the computer and watching videos. With these stories being once-a-year stories, shouldn’t we take the time to read?
Reading will help the family bond. It will create a love of reading. It will help language skills. Reading is a wonderful experience. By reading, instead of watching, your child can use their imagination and link thoughts/ideas with words. If they simply watch a movie, someone else does this for them.
Isn’t it worth it to read the holiday classics with your children? I think so.
